Brick Street Cafe was founded on September 1, 1995, by the marvelously talented, beautiful, and dare we say..thin, Sara Wilson.

The building was initially a belt factory, where people came, from far and near, to make belts for an honest living.

Nowadays, people still travel from great distances to the old historical landmark, but not to work, mind you, but to eat some of the finest Southern cooking they have ever had.

You might be askin’ yourself, “Do they still have anything to do with belts, here?” As a matter of fact, they do. Customers who sit down to a delicious meal always have to loosen theirs.....maybe just a notch or two.

Now, legend has it that the old wooden statue of Abe Lincoln that is out front of Brick Street will actually tear up and start crying at the very mention of Sara’s Famous Sweet Potato pie or “Love Muffin”.

Oh, you can try it if you want to, makin’ Abe cry & all. But you have to look deep in his hollowed out blank eyes and say the chant,”Sweet Potato Pie, so good from this place, make some teardrops roll down from your face.” But be warned, many a man has gone mad saying that mysterious chant over and over, to no avail. Don’t say you weren’t warned.

This old building is part of history. The floors creek, the lights flicker, the pipes rattle when you cut off the water too fast, but it’s cozy, quaint, and has a down home feelin’. You almost feel like you could just come in, take your shoes off and sit down to some good Southern style cookin’, just like your grandma used to make, ....and you can.

Except for the “takin’ off your shoes” part, nothing personal but you aren’t the only person eating here and not everyone appreciates the fragrant aroma of dirty old feet while they’re eating.
